Description
De Havilland Mosquito Mk VI fighter bombers from the Banff Strike Wing in northern Scotland opening fire on merchant ships in Nazi-occupied Norway in the winter of 1944-45.
This Flight Artworks depiction shows a typical attack with aircraft from several RAF squadrons, most prominently No. 248 Squadron and No. 143 Squadron, with mixed weapons loads and aircraft camouflage schemes.
Although these operations could be devastatingly effective they were also extremely dangerous for the aircrew.
Modifications to all the aircraft to convert the rocket rails from four under each wing to pairs of two, alongside drop tanks, were made in early March 1945.
