Description
An RAF Hurricane night fighter sets out on a dusk patrol in 1942. This depicts Hurricane Mk IIc BE634, coded ZY-V with 247 Squadron, which was based at the time in Exeter in Devon.
My picture was commissioned to accompany an article in the RAF Memorial Flight Club 2020 Yearbook. The flight's Hurricane PZ865 is being transformed to represent this aircraft - including having night flying ‘blinkers’ installed above the engine exhaust stacks, as shown here. These were fitted to wartime night fighters in an attempt to avoid the bright exhaust flames ruining the pilot's night vision.
