Artist's Description
Two sections of the RAF's 315 (Polish) Squadron, led by Squadron Leader Eugeniusz Horbaczewski in FB166 PK-G, in a fluid six formation above the clouds in June 1944. The highly distinctive black and white 'invasion stripes', painted on at the last minute, were an attempt to make friendly aircraft readily identifiable to the huge numbers of Allied sailors and soldiers on D-Day - not entirely successfully.
